Managing COVID-19 Myths and Rumours

Date

Time
16:00 - 19:00, GMT+1 – BST

This is a free interactive online module. You will learn how rumours and myths develop, how to mitigate their impact and work in communities

About this Event

What does the course cover?

This 3-hour module seeks to give an overview of how and why myths, misconceptions, rumours and stigmatisation have appeared during the COVID-19 outbreak, focusing especially on the MENA context. The module will examine some of the most common myths and rumours in the region as examples, and will build on learning from other epidemic responses on the most appropriate ways to tackle misinformation, and instill trust in factual and accurate information.

By the end of the module, you will be able to:

  • Explain how rumours and stigmatisation develop
  • Describe how to map rumours in the communities you work with, and prioritise those rumours that are most challenging
  • Recall ways of engaging with different groups, networks and coordinating bodies to triangulate and provide accurate information

Who should apply?

The module is designed for those working with communities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the MENA region. This includes staff from governments, humanitarian and development organisations, community-based organisations, faith-based organisations, women’s and youth groups.

Where is it hosted?

Our interactive online modules are hosted on Zoom. However, participants are not required to download an app and may join through a browser. Participants will receive instructions on how to join the module after registration.

For this module, RedR UK is also offering HPass Badging. An HPass badge is a digital indicator of achievement, and a way for participants to demonstrate their skills and experience.
