Common funding mechanisms at country level

The panel discussion aimed to discuss the funding architecture at country level, which constitutes the framework for the diverse humanitarian actors that are working together in the field. The growing amount and complexity of humanitarian crisis situations, as well as an increasing number and diversity of actors in the system underlines the need for coordination and funding mechanisms that are fit for purpose.

The current humanitarian crisis map shows more and more protracted crisis situations. But humanitarian contexts are highly diverse. In some situations – such as in the aftermath of sudden onset crisis – the speed of delivery is key. In protracted crisis situations, longer term approaches to finance are requested. The international debate among humanitarian actors on how to deal with these challenges is also connected to the funding architecture of the humanitarian system.
