KUNO Covid Café: The Covid-crisis in the Global South

Date
15 May 2020
Time
14:00 - 15:00, GMT+1 – BST

The Covid-19 crisis is posing a challenge to the world in unprecedented ways and it is influencing our daily lives. It will most definitely also change our work in the humanitarian sector. This needs to be discussed: with humanitarian professionals, with policymakers, academics, and certainly also with a broader audience: citizens that are firmly interested this topic, but who may also have worries. This is why KUNO in cooperation with partners, is introducing the KUNO Covid Café. Every week we organize an online café, to discuss the changing world with inspiring speakers and a wide audience.

The first series of Covid-Cafe’s will be a joint Oxfam Novib - KUNO effort. We are happy to start with our first episode on Friday, 15 May 2020, at 15:00 CET. In the kick-off episode of this series we will look at the consequences of the Covid-crisis in the Global South.

The speakers in this episode are:
Hassiba Hadj-Sahraoui, MSF Amsterdam, on the impact of Covid 19 on the MSF operations in the Mediterranean Sea and in the detention centers for migrants, asylum seekers and refugees in Libya.
Helen Keizer-Nwoha, Executive Director of Women's International Peace Centre, will give us a feminist perspective on the Covid crisis in Sub-Sahara Africa.
Samah Hadid, Oxfam in Yemen, on the preexisting humanitarian situation and the Covid crisis in Yemen
Speaker on Latin American perspective to be confirmed

The KUNO Covid Café will be a low-key webinar, which you can enjoy, with a cup of tea or coffee, at the end of your work day. It is also a great opportunity to stay in touch on relevant developments within our sector, and to discuss with the guest speakers via the chat in the webinar. You can of course also e-mail any questions you may have beforehand, we will then check if we can incorporate them into the webinar.
